Wind energy plays an increasingly important role in South Africa’s renewable energy transition. Wind turbines operate in harsh environmental conditions and require specialized electrical and mechanical knowledge to ensure efficiency, reliability, and safety.
This course introduces learners to wind turbine systems, focusing on electrical generation, control systems, operation, and maintenance principles.

Minimum Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- NSC: Higher Certificate (HC) pass with at least 30% in English
- NC(V): HC pass with 40%
- Senior Certificate (SC) : Minimum 33.3% – Endorsement not required
- SC (Amended): HC pass with a minimum of 30%
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS:
- NSC: Higher Certificate (HC) pass with at least 30% in
- A SAQA Evaluation Certificate confirming NSC Level 4 equivalence
- Minimum 30% or equivalent in English
- Senate Discretionary Admissions
- Mature Age Category 5 (23 years and older):
- Must be 23 years or older during the first year of registration
- Must have attempted a Senior Certificate or equivalent
- Minimum of three years’ work experience
- Demonstrated ability and adequate communication skills relevant to the programme
- Mature Age Category 6 (45 years and older):
- Must be 45 years or older during the first year of registration
- No formal school-leaving qualification required
